Canadian Viking Air Ltd plans to start by the end of April the production of the new DHC-6-400 series. Viking bought DHC-6 designs and wrights from de Havilland Canada recently in order to produce an improved version of the 1988s’ original Twin-Otter -300 series. There are already few firm orders for the -400 series as follows:
Trans Maldivian Airlines 5 aircraft
Loch Ard Otters 6 aircraft +6 option
Air Seychelles 2 aircraft
Air Moorea 2 aircraft
Zimex Aviation 1 aircraft
The first deliveries of the new 19-seat aircrafts are planed for 2009.
Experts say that a lot of current -300 series users will purchase the new aircraft in order to replace their old fleet. Other major DHC-6 users with very high activity are Winair of Netherlands Antilles and Air Sea Lines of Greece, which recently announce the new summer schedule with much more domestic destinations than previous years. The Greek airline is using amphibian version of -300 series and with 7 new domestic destinations the company except to have a clear view of the market very soon.
